Kid Thomas

Tommy Louis Watts est né le 20 juin 1934 à Sturgis dans le Mississippi.

Sa famille émigne à Chicago en 1941. C'est là qu'il apprend à jouer de l'harmonica avec Little Walter.

A partir de 1945, il joue de son instrument pour de nombreux artistes comme Elmore James, Muddy Waters ou Bo Diddley et développe son propre style.

Kid fini par former son propre groupe et fait une première session d'enregistrement pour King-Federal le 18 avril 1957. Huit morceaux sont enregistrés : "Wolf Pack" et "The Spell" qui sont gravés sur le premier single de Kid Thomas (Federal 12298), "Jivin' Mess", "Come Here Woman", "She's Fine", "Here's My Story", "Ride On, Ride On" et "Beulah Come Back" qui restent inédie jusqu'à ce que Wolf Record les publie en 1991 sur l'album "Here's My Story".

La même année Kid découvre Little Richard, à qui il emprunte sa coiffure pompadour, et adopte un style plus rock 'n' roll.

Kid et sa troupe font par la suite une tournée dans le Kansas, puis se séparent.

Kid travaille alors pour Magic Sam et Otis Rush.

C'est en 1960 que Georges Mottola produit un nouveau single de Kid Thomas : "Rockin' This Joint Tonite" / "You Are An Angel" (Transcontinetal T-1012) qui connait un petit succès à Chicago.

Kid reforme un groupe, The Rhythm Rockers, qui joue dans divers club durant le début des années soixante.

Il grave deux nouveaux singles en 1965 pour Muriel Records sous le nom de Tommy Louis and the Rhythm Rockers : "The Hurt Is On" / "I Love You So" (Muriel M-1001), deux purs blues, et " Wail Baby Wail" / "Lookie There" (Muriel M-1002) beaucoup plus rock 'n' roll.

Aucun n'aura de succès.

Kid gravera encore un single pour Cenco en 1969 : "Angel" / "Willow Brook" (Cenco 115).

En 1969 Kid provoque un accident de la circulation dans lequel un jeune garçon est tué. Le père de ce dernier abattra Kid d'un coup de fusil le 5 avril 1970.
